Another Jesus

In the Book of 2nd  Corinthians, the Apostle Paul expresses his concern that some teachers were preaching "Another Jesus": "But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtlety, so your minds should be corrupted From the simplicity that is in Christ. For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him." (2 Corinthians 11:3-4). We are instructed, to "bear with him" concerning any preacher or teacher and not judge or criticize anyone. But this is not what God was telling us to do or what Paul speaks of as acceptable – this is a negative statement concerning such practice.  In the Greek manuscripts the word used for "bear with him" is "anechomi" (an-ekh'-om-ahee) which comes from a root word meaning "to hold oneself up against", figuratively meaning “to put up with” and is translated as “bear with endure, forbear, suffer.” We should not “put up with” or “endure” false prophets and those who teach a different Jesus than that which is revealed through the Holy Scriptures and stand firm against false teachings. Galatians 1:8But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.”

What would be considered as "another Jesus"? The Greek word used in this scripture verse is "allos" meaning different. So what Paul was speaking of is a teaching that represents a different Jesus; not the Jesus revealed in the Bible, not the true only begotten son of God the Father; but "another Jesus": an impostor, a false Jesus, one that can be considered idolatrous. When we make Jesus something that He is not, when we ascribe to Him a nature and character that is not worthy of Him, or subtract from the He is in truth, then that picture of Him, that image of Him in our minds is idolatrous. In fact teaching of another Jesus that is not the true Jesus of the Bible that leads others astray from the truth can be considered as blasphemous against God. Example: The Jesus of Catholicism that needs Mary as a Mediatrix.

1 Timothy 1:19-20Holding faith, and a good conscience; which some having put away concerning faith have made shipwreck: Of whom is Hymenaeus and Alexander; whom I have delivered unto Satan, that they may learn not to blaspheme.”That word for blaspheme is the Greek word blasphemeo, blas-fay-meh'-o; meaning “to vilify; specifically to speak impiously:” and is translated as “(speak) blaspheme, defame, rail on, revile, speak evil.” So that is not as speaking the name of the Lord in vain as in cursing but speaking wrongly about Him or to speak about him something that is evil or contrary to the truth. According to the dictionary impiously means “Lacking reverence;” or “Lacking due respect” and to blaspheme is “To speak of God in an irreverent, impious manner.” In the context of Paul’s writing here in 1st Timothy, Paul was saying that it was blasphemous to speak wrong doctrine. This whole first chapter is about doctrine. In V.3-4 he says that thou mightest charge some that they teach no other doctrine, Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies” “No other” doctrine could also be translated “strange” doctrine, which can be understood by using the Old Testament example of what God called “strange” fire, meaning a fire that was different than that which was lit by Him and kept going perpetually and used to burn the sacrifices and for incense to be put on the “Altar of Incense” in the Holy Place. Fables are a teaching, which are false and have no basis, as in fairy tales and in context within this passage is referring to what Paul called “Jewish fables” in Titus 1:13-14.Wherefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith; Not giving heed to Jewish fables, and commandments of men, that turn from the truth.” Notice what false or wrong doctrinal teaching does and why it is so harshly spoken against.

Going on in 1Timothy 1; Paul speaks about those that desire to teach but don’t know what they are saying. 1Timothy 1:7Desiring to be teachers of the law; understanding neither what they say, nor whereof they affirm.” We are told in verses 9 and 10 that the law is made for the ungodly and disobedient and “any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine.” In Verse 13 Paul says that he was once a blasphemer and as a strict Pharisee we know that he did not take God’s name in vain, but it was his wrongly speaking against “the way” and Christ as the Messiah and savior of Israel, which he tells us that he did ignorantly because of his unbelief in Christ. So all this precedes the 20th verse in which he says that Hymenaeus and Alexander had blasphemed. In 2 Timothy 2:17-18 Paul again mentions Hymenaeus and says that he taught that the resurrection was past, a teaching that he said “overthrew the faith of some.” So that is an example of false teaching and the one who speaks it is a false teacher and a blasphemer. Another good picture and proof of this is Numbers 15:30-31But the soul that doeth ought presumptuously, whether he be born in the land, or a stranger, the same reproacheth the LORD; and that soul shall be cut off from among his people. Because he hath despised the word of the LORD, and hath broken his commandment, that soul shall utterly be cut off; his iniquity shall be upon him.” The Hebrew word translated “reproacheth” is “gadaph, gaw-daf'; a primary root; meaning to hack (with words), i.e. revile:” and is translated as “blaspheme” or “reproach”. Here we are told that which is presumptuous against the Lord is reproaching or blaspheming the Lord. Maybe this is a clue to what the unpardonable sin of blasphemy against the Holy Spirit really is.

It should be remembered that paganism dating back to the time of the "Tower of Babel", included the veneration of the pagan gods' son. Many times the son was considered to be a savior or mediator between god and man. He was one member of the pagan trinity: the father, the son and the mother. Down through history, pagan gods and goddesses, by whatever name, have simply been the renamed sun gods and goddesses of antiquity. Whether it was Nimrod, Semiramis, and the son Tammuz of the Chaldean mysteries, or Osiris, Isis and the son Horus of Egypt: they are all just different incarnations of the same idol pagan dieties. Most importantly, they all oppose the Biblical Trinity, God the Father, Jesus His only begotten Son and the Holy Spirit.

How can one differentiate between the Jesus of the Bible and what Paul calls "another Jesus"? The answer is that the purely Biblical attributes of the true Jesus when compared to the extra-Biblical attributes of "another Jesus" will reveal the false Jesus, the impostor. John 15:25: “But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me.” He will show you who the real Jesus is. It’s not enough to know truth about Him, God wants us to know Him and the purpose of the Holy Spirit is to bring us to Jesus and reveal Him to those who want Him. An example here is the Mormon deception of Jesus, which is another Jesus, one who was as we once were, a mere man, born of two human parents, who became God. They believe that as we are, He once was and as He is, we can become.

John 16:13-14 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will show you things to come. He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall show it unto you.” There is no other way to discern but by a true knowledge of what the scriptures say and reveal to us of Jesus and the work of the Holy Spirit to speak to our spirit man and give witness to that which is truth. 1John 5:6 “And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth.” The Spirit uses the truth and gives witness to the truth, so if you are only hearing that which is deception and you do not receive the truth, then He has nothing to work with. 1 John 2:27But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.” Now, this tells you that the Spirit is able to teach you truth, but in context you have to have the truth, speaking of the Word of God. You have to have the Holy Spirit abiding in you. This means that as you read and study God’s Word, He, the Spirit of Truth will show you truth and reveal truth to you, if you study with an open heart, desiring the truth that you might follow and obey it. That is an absolute requirement. In this chapter John talks about the those that he calls antichrists and their deception, but states in V.21I have not written unto you because ye know not the truth, but because ye know it, and that no lie is of the truth. ” Anyone who is not desirous of the truth, hungry for the truth that they might live by it and please God will never come to the knowledge of the truth. John 7:17If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself.” So many today do not know the truth and believe a lie because they do not seek the truth for the truths sake. This will cause them to be deceived. 2 Thessalonians 2:10-12 “…because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.” Furthermore, when one errs or is wrong in their doctrine, because our salvation depends upon what we believe, they are spoken of as needing to be converted and turned from their sin, as if they had never come to a saving knowledge of the truth. James 5:19-20Brethren, if any of you do err from the truth, and one convert him; Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.” The Greek word for “err” is planao, plan-ah'-o; literally meaning “to roam or cause to roam from safety, truth, or virtue:” It is translated as: “go astray, deceive, err, seduce, wander, be out of the way.” So if that describes a persons position as in relation to the truth of scripture, then they are in need of being converted – to the truth – that they might be saved from their sin, for they are sinners in need of being saved. That is clear. To make it further clear, the Greek word for “convert” is epistrepho, ep-ee-stref'-o; meaning to revert:” and is translated as “come (go) again, convert, (re-) turn (about, again).” They have to come back or turn back to the truth that is able to save them. “Converteth” in verse 20 is the same Greek word. The Greek word for “error” in “the error of his way” is plane, plan'-ay; meaning “fraudulence; subjective - a straying from orthodoxy or piety:” and is translated as “deceit, to deceive, delusion, error.” All the others words in this passage are literal and this is pure, straightforward and easy to understand. Of this there are many warnings in scripture, so I will suffice with this one by John in 1 John 1:16-18 “…they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction. Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness. But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.”

Today there are philosophers who are wise in the ways of the world but not in the things of God, who are "vain in their imaginations" (Romans 1:21), who teach ways that oppose the ways of God: "Another Jesus". The scripture continues in V.21-22 and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools.” This is the result of the vanity of thoughts of one who is not a true believer, who knows about the truth, who has heard the truth but not taken it to heart and so it has not benefited them, but instead led them into further darkness of mind, away from the knowledge of the truth that is able to lead them to salvation. 2 Timothy 3:15And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.” Those who trust in human wisdom and the ways of the world are fools to God. When man trusts in his own knowledge and ability he is on a road to nowhere, but damnation. Jeremiah 17:5Thus saith the LORD; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the LORD.”

Many pagan practices that have absolutely no scriptural basis are being taught as the worship of the true God and Jesus Christ His Son. These practices have not only been accepted but have become commonplace in many organized churches. Those who refuse to participate in those practices are considered strange and narrow- minded. One of the most beloved that is a golden cow in the church today is their “Christmas” celebration and all the nonsense about the birth of Jesus and all the pagan practices associated with December 25th all of which have nothing to do with the Jesus of the Bible. We are in no way told to celebrate the birth of Jesus every year or any of the other related things the church does over a period of one to two months, all of which are supposed to honor and bring glory to Jesus. These practices, introduced gradually by false teachers, have been accepted through tradition and have absolutely no scriptural basis. One of Satan’s methods of deception and causing God’s people to compromise and sin goes like this: If you start slow enough and repeat it often enough you can convince anybody of anything. This is how we got to where we are today with pornographic TV and movies from the occult, demonic and witchcraft, to the most gruesome violence and horror and sexual perversion. It didn’t start that way and in the beginning, even when TV was still in black and white and it was only news and simple shows like “I Love Lucy” the church stood against TV and called it a “One eyed devil” and “Demon vision” and “Hellivision” and more.  Yet today who doesn’t have one and watch and yet there are even things on the news that is horrible and damaging to the spirit, not to mention the new kinds of entertainment called “reality TV” which began with the program called “Survivor”.  Where will this mess end up? They have already had one aimed at seducing couples. We have no excuse for such ignorance and stupidity and deception. Why are God’s people taking part in and giving themselves to be partakers of such stuff and enjoying it? We have been fairly warned. "there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies....". (2Peter 2:1) It’s only because the ministers have compromised and left truth that they don’t speak against going to the movies and dancing and other worldliness that they once stood against. The change from holiness, godliness and separation from the world to compromise and being at ease with and in bed with the world did not happen overnight, but slowly and gradually. It’s “well this is just a little thing” or “it isn’t that much of a difference or that much of a change” so what’s wrong with it? Don’t be so strict, old fashioned and square, after all, this is the 20th and now 21st century. We must search the scriptures to find out the truth which never changes and is not subject to change for it is as unchangeable and immutable as God is, for He and His Word are one and eternal. The truth is that the ways of the LORD prescribed for His people have not changed, nor will they change. The truth is that the only thing that has changed is that as believers we are no longer under the death penalty for disobedience if we come to the Father in the Name and through the Blood of His Son and repent and turn from our disobedience and rebellion against Him.

Activities that were unacceptable to the LORD 6000 years ago and unacceptable to His Son Jesus 2000 years ago or unacceptable to His people 100 or even 25 years ago are still unacceptable today. Christ said in Matthew 15:8: "This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far From me. But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men." It’s because they have changed the pure and holy Word of God into something that is more accommodating to the flesh and pleasing to the senses. We have wanted to change the Word for our convenience and the people have said, “that is an out of date gospel, we need a modern gospel relevant for our time and culture.” Dear ones, the Word of God is timeless and ageless and relevant for all times and societies and cultures and races and peoples for it was written by the God who created us and knows us and knows that we are really all made the same way, out of the same stuff and that human nature has always been the same since the fall of Adam. Man has not changed and God’s will and purpose for us has not changed. Notice that Jesus said that these people draw near with their mouth, they go to church, hear His word, sing and worship God, but all in vain because their doctrines are incorrect and their ideas of God, who He is and what He expects of them and His will for them has been changed to what they want and they are living to please themselves and for their own purpose and will instead of His. The problem He said is in their heart, not in their words. They say they know and love Him, but their heart is not going after Him and truly loving Him because if they did, they would want to have close fellowship with Him and do the things that please Him. James 1:22 says: “But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.” In Matthew 7:24-27 Jesus told the story of two kinds of people in the parable of two houses with different foundations. He said one man built his house upon a rock and the other build his upon the sand. The difference was the one who heard and obeyed the words of God was the one like a house built upon a rock that could stand the storms of life and the other who heard but did not obey the word of God was like a house upon the sand that could easily be destroyed by the wind and rain. Also, if that which you are obeying and living by is not the truth but deception, a false doctrine, then it cannot help you for it is the commandments of men and not of God. It doesn’t matter how much sincere you are and perfect in living by what you believe, if it is not the truth, then it will not set you free, but keep you in bondage because it is not the truth and the light, but darkness. Remember you can be sincere and sincerely wrong. Jesus said in John 8:32And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” Wong doctrine and wrong faith cannot set you free and bring you into the liberty of the Spirit of God that is in Christ. Also, in Matthew 6:23 Jesus said: “If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!”

The prophesies of the Bible have come true: the time has come when sound doctrine is not endured (2 Timothy 4:3). People receive teachers who tell them what they want to hear and tickle their ears, speaking smooth things instead of the truth. Isaiah 30:9-10That this is a rebellious people, lying children, children that will not hear the law of the LORD: Which say to the seers, See not; and to the prophets, Prophesy not unto us right things, speak unto us smooth things, prophesy deceits.” The Hebrew word for deceits literally means “a delusion.” Notice what Paul said in Romans 16:17-18. “Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them. For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple.” Things that are wrong are justified, explained away: disregarding the warning of Isaiah 5:20: "Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!" It is so bad that we have ministers today crusading for the “separation of church and state” and who stand for the “rights of homosexuals” and teach “unconditional eternal security” even for those who commit suicide and many other things that are an abomination and contrary to the truth of scripture. Fables and the traditions of men are substituted for the truth. We were plainly told in 2Timothy 4:4: "after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears From the truth, and shall be turned unto fables."

Again, Christ said in Matthew 15:9: "In vain they do worship me teaching for doctrines the commandments of men." The Greek word translated "in vain" is (maten, mat'-ane) literally means “folly” i.e. "to no purpose, fruitless, folly, a futile attempt".

"Christianized" pagan activities, traditional inventions of men, are not in honor of the Biblical Jesus. He does not accept them as worship. Are these practices in honor of "another Jesus"? What "Jesus" prefers the commandments of unrighteous man above those of the Father? Not the Jesus of the Bible! In Matthew 5:17-19 He said: "Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass From the law, till all be fulfilled. Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven." Heaven and earth have not passed away. His ways have not changed no matter what man's tradition teaches. Although true born-again believers are not longer under the death penalty resulting from the transgression of the law, there are penalties for rejecting it and blessings for adherence.

Here are a few other scriptures to consider. Colossians 2:8 "Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ." John 4:24 In order to worship in "spirit and in truth" the traditions of men and so called "Christianized" pagan practices that have no Biblical authority must be rejected. Believers must remember what the Bible teaches about blending pagan practices with worship that is pleasing to God. Galatians 5:9 "This persuasion cometh not of him that calleth you. A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump." Philippians 1:14 Believers must "speak the word." 2 Timothy 3:16 "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness." There are preachers today that claim what they say is as authoritative as the written Word of God, but that is just not so. I don’t care if they claim to be “filled with the Holy Spirit” and to be prophets or even apostles, as some call themselves. God’s eternal Word begins and ends with “It is written…” That is the only thing Jesus spoke to the devil and that is what He came to fulfill and do.

Today, one who is intolerance of compromise, sin and wickedness is considered as being fanatical, one who lacks love and compassion for other’s and is a hatemonger, when the truth is just the opposite. If one really cares about a person and loves them then they will tell them the truth, whether it makes him popular or not, whether they think the person will like it or not. God tell us in Proverbs 27:6 "Open rebuke is better than secret love. Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful." The Hebrew word translated “deceitful” comes from a root word meaning “abundant.” All one has to do is look at the political scene today to see multiplied examples of such falsehood and lies and calling evil, good; and good, evil. But the problem is that it is also in the church. Notice this prayer of David in Psalm 141:3-5; “Set a watch, O LORD, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips. Incline not my heart to any evil thing, to practice wicked works with men that work iniquity: and let me not eat of their dainties. Let the righteous smite me; it shall be a kindness: and let him reprove me; it shall be an excellent oil, which shall not break my head: for yet my prayer also shall be in their calamities.” Job 5:17Behold, happy is the man whom God correcteth: therefore despise not thou the chastening of the AlmightyRevelation 3:19So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief.” Hebrews 12:7-11If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not? But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons. Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live? For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness. Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.”

When one receives a reproof it is not usually accepted as pleasing conversation. The question arises: should the truth be spoken even if it is not pleasing; or should truths be withheld because they are unpopular or will offend? In Ecclesiastes 3:1 Solomon said: “To every thing there is a season and a time to every purpose under the heaven.” He went on to give many examples, one in verse 7, which was “a time to keep silence, and a time to speak.” The Hebrew word translated “keep silent” literally means “to hush or keep quiet” and means to “be silent, hold your peace and be still.” You don’t always tell everything you know. For example: in Matthew 7:6 Jesus said: “Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you.” Also note Proverbs 9:10: "He that reproveth a scorner getteth to himself shame: and he that rebuketh a wicked man getteth himself a blot. Reprove not a scorner, lest he hate thee: rebuke a wise man, and he will love thee. Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning. The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding." Some people you just have to let go their own way. In Matthew 15 Jesus spoke to the Pharisees and afterward the disciples said: “Knowest thou that the Pharisees were offended, after they heard this saying?” (Matthew 15:12). To which Jesus answered: “Every plant, which my heavenly Father hath not planted, shall be rooted up. Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch.”  The Hebrew word translated “let them alone (aphiemi, af-ee'-ay-mee), is also translated as “forsake, lay aside, leave, let (alone, be, go, have), omit, put (send) away.”

It is not difficult to proclaim error in a way that is pleasing to those who, through the traditions of men, participate in activities never prescribed nor authorized by the Father, Jesus, His son, or the believers that walked with Christ. Most people are not aware of the deception that has crept into the church. Many teachers, however, who have studied the Bible and secular history, are well aware of the origin of "Christianized" pagan practices yet they proclaim them to be accepted by the Biblical Jesus. The apostle Paul calls them "unruly and vain talkers and deceivers.....whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for filthy lucre's sake." (Titus 1:11) Those concealing the truth in order to uphold the traditions of men should be told, but not in a pleasing way that Pagan tradition was never authorized by the Jesus of the Bible - you are preaching "another Jesus". Some teachers who honestly do not know, those who love the truth, will not receive reproof as a personal attack, but will "receive the word with all readiness of mind" (Acts 17:11): and search the scriptures to find out the truth.

Do we really love the truth? Those that do will not be satisfied to remain like those, who, "willingly are ignorant". (2Peter 3:5) They will study in order to search out the truth and then respond to it. The truth must be proclaimed: "That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:" (Ephesians 4:15)

This type of activity has been taking place throughout history. In the days of Solomon, he had to wisely proclaim: "Lo, this only have I found, that God hath made man upright; but they have sought out many inventions." (Ecclesiastes 7:29) Activities proclaimed by God to be abominations are now performed in the name of Jesus. But who authorized these things?

Not the Biblical Jesus, His disciples or first century believers. The Biblical Jesus stated: "If I do not the works of my Father, believe me not." (John 10:37) Only "Another Jesus" could support such activity.

Blending of pagan practices with the prescribed worship of God was never accepted. A good example is when Aaron built the golden calf during the Exodus: "he built an altar before it; and Aaron made proclamation, and said, To morrow is a feast to the LORD"......."And the LORD said unto Moses, I have seen this people, and, behold, it is a stiffnecked people: Now therefore let me alone, that my wrath may wax hot against them, and that I may consume them:" (Exodus 32:9-10) The proclamation of this pagan tradition to be in honor of the LORD did not make it acceptable. Christ said: "he that hath seen me hath seen the Father." (John 14:9) The proclamation of pagan traditions to be in honor of Christ, who is one with the Father, will not make them acceptable. Pagan practices by whatever name are still pagan practices. The Bible makes it clear "I am the LORD, I change not...." (Malachi 3:6)

Should believers participate in ways that are opposed to Biblical instructions? No! absolutely not! The answer is unavoidable; so, many try to justify and make excuses. One common excuse: Although this activity is pagan in origin it has been "Christianized" and that is not what it means to me.  If we want to worship "in spirit and in truth" (John 4:24), what it means to us makes no difference. What it means to our heavenly Father should be our concern. He does not change and he does not accept pagan tradition by whatever name. Remember, He said that such activity is in vain.

In accordance with Biblical instructions we must hold fast the faithful word of sound doctrine. A small amount of research using historical reference books or any good encyclopedia will reveal the pagan origin of many non-Biblical practices. This common type of reference material is available at public libraries. It is no secret; most theologians are well aware of the pagan origins of some activities now proclaimed to be "Christian". The secret is: why this is being accepted. Most importantly, a study of the Bible will reveal that there is no Biblical support for many of today's "Christian" activities.

Our Creator has plainly instructed us as to what is pleasing to Him and as to the type of worship He accepts. Activity in opposition to His instruction is sin. It is our responsibility to adhere to that instruction. King Solomon, a man of great wisdom stated: "Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man" (Ecclesiastes 12:13) Although salvation is  "by grace through faith.......not of works, lest any man should boast." (Ephesians 2:9) "sin is the transgression of the law" (1 John 3:4) "What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?" (Romans 6:2)

Practices in opposition to the acceptable ways of the Biblical Christ can only be in honor of "Another Jesus."
