Is Your Soul Satisfied?

BlueBar

Every manís soul has an inner longing, a hunger and thirst, a craving and emptiness that demands to be filled and satisfied. The question is what can satisfy your soul? But more importantly, with what are you trying to satisfy the longings, cravings and emptiness of your soul?

John 4:7 There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water: Jesus saith unto her, Give me to drink. Jesus asked this woman of Samaria to serve Him. (John 4:8-9 (For his disciples were gone away unto the city to buy meat.) Then saith the woman of Samaria unto him, How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, which am a woman of Samaria? for the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans.) Her answer showed one of the most common and abominable problems in the churches today - prejudice. She was prejudiced against the Jews, as were most Jews against the Samaritans. Most churches that are even inter-racial have little racial cliques. They still act differently toward those of their own physical fleshly race than all others. They gather together with their "own kind". Yet the Bible is clear in telling us that in Christ, there is no race. We are a new race, "Christ-ian". We are one new man in Christ (Ephesians2:15 Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace). Yet we donít see each other as all the same. We arenít willing to put aside the differences of culture and allegiances to the flesh, even though Jesus spoke clearly on the subject. But, since that is not the subject, (John 4:10 The Jews therefore said unto him that was cured, It is the sabbath day: it is not lawful for thee to carry thy bed.) Most today donít "know" who Jesus is. They donít know or believe that He is God, the great "I AM", the Alpha and Omega, the only "Way" and "truth" and "life". So they look elsewhere to satisfy the inner need for fellowship with someone outside themselves that can fill the emptiness within them.

All men have a need to worship something. And all do. Even those who say they are atheists - worship. What do you worship? Or, what are you devoted to? Acts 17:23 For as I passed by, and beheld your devotions, I found an altar with this inscription, TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. Whom therefore ye ignorantly worship, him declare I unto you. Many, out of ignorance, worship other gods, rather than the true and living God. Many worship money, self, another person, a political persuasion, someone who is dead, or even an idol. Every man will worship, because God created us with an inner emptiness and need for Him that only He can fill. Most just havenít found that out, and they are trying to fill the emptiness through other means. Men will substitute religion and what they believe in, and give themselves totally to it. Men spend hours a day in meditation and prayer to demon gods, trying to find themselves, the reason for their being alive, and for their existence, yet they will not give themselves to the Lord Jesus, to serve Him so that they might have what they desire, crave, long for, and seek to find outside of Him.

John 4:10 Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water. "Living water?" What is He talking about? (John 4:11 The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water?) This is good. Jesus just tells her that He is the source of living water, that will satisfy the thirst forever, and she says, "You donít have anything to draw with." First she puts Him down as being a Jew, now she tells Him He has nothing to offer her, no means to provide what He is speaking of. See, she doesnít know who He is, yet. Like most, she is still spiritually blind and ignorant. (John 4:12-13 Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle?

Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again.) Donít you understand, He is telling her, this well has a natural water, that you can drink and get a temporary fix, something that seems for the moment like it satisfies, but then it isnít long before you are again, thirsty and needing to come back out here with you water pots, and again, work to get something to fill your thirst. We work and labor, we seek and toil, we spend and are spent, trying to fill the longing and thirsting of our souls, but do not find it, because we do not go to the right source.

Isaiah 55:2-3 Wherefore do ye spend money for that which is not bread? and your labour for that which satisfieth not? hearken diligently unto me, and eat ye that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness. Incline your ear, and come unto me: hear, and your soul shall live; and I will make an everlasting covenant with you, even the sure mercies of David. With what are you trying to satisfy your soul? Psalm 78:30-31 They were not estranged from their lust. But while their meat was yet in their mouths, The wrath of God came upon them, and slew the fattest of them, and smote down the chosen men of Israel. These tried to satisfy their hunger with meat, food. But we know a meal only lasts a few hours and you are hungry again. Luke 12:19-21 And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry. But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided? So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God. This man was going to live it up and have a party. Luke 21:34 And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares. Some try to fill the emptiness within them with alcohol or drugs, but they donít satisfy, they merely deceive and pacify. Ecclesiastes 5:10 He that loveth silver shall not be satisfied with silver; nor he that loveth abundance with increase: this is also vanity. Money and abundance of things will not satisfy the soul. Any relief is only temporary and deceiving. It doesnít last long, and youíre back looking for another fix. So we have shop-aholics. They buy a new toy every time they are depressed or lonely or sad. But that too doesnít last any longer than the last thing they bought. Ezekiel 7:19 They shall cast their silver in the streets, and their gold shall be removed: their silver and their gold shall not be able to deliver them in the day of the wrath of the LORD: they shall not satisfy their souls, neither fill their bowels: because it is the stumblingblock of their iniquity. Itís all useless and vanity. Well, if none of these things will satisfy the soul, what will?

John 4:13-14 Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again: But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life. Not a glass of water, not a cup, or gallon, or container, but a well. And not just any well, but a well that doesnít run dry. A well that you can draw from anytime, anywhere, and in any amount you desire, to your heart and souls content, until you are satisfied. Isaiah 55:1 Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price; Revelation 21:6 And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely., Revelation 22:1, 17 And he showed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb. 17 And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely. Are you thirsty? The qualification for one to drink of this water is thirst. Jesus said, he that hungers and thirsts for righteousness shall be filled. Are you thirsty for the living God. Are you thirsty for something that can really satisfy your soul, that doesnít cost money or effort, only your time and hearts desire to be filled. Isaiah 41:17-18 When the poor and needy seek water, and there is none, and their tongue faileth for thirst, I the LORD will hear them, I the God of Israel will not forsake them. I will open rivers in high places, and fountains in the midst of the valleys: I will make the wilderness a pool of water, and the dry land springs of water. David showed us the heart that God is looking for, the soul that he can fill. Psalm 42:1 As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God; 143:6 I stretch forth my hands unto thee: my soul thirsteth after thee, as a thirsty land. Selah. What about you? Does your soul long for the living God. Does your soul desire and long for him, with a driving passion? David and Isaiah give us some more clues as to who can drink of this living water that Jesus speaks of: Psalm 34:9 O fear the LORD, ye his saints: for there is no want to them that fear him; Psalm 37:19 They shall not be ashamed in the evil time: and in the days of famine they shall be satisfied.; Isaiah 33:15-16 He that walketh righteously, and speaketh uprightly; he that despiseth the gain of oppressions, that shaketh his hands from holding of bribes, that stoppeth his ears from hearing of blood, and shutteth his eyes from seeing evil; He shall dwell on high: his place of defence shall be the munitions of rocks: bread shall be given him; his waters shall be sure.

John 4:15 The woman saith unto him, Sir, give me this water, that I thirst not, neither come hither to draw. Are you asking for the living water to satisfy your thirst? Jesus said you have not because you ask not: (James 4:2-3 Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not. Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.; Luke 11:13 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?).

John 4:16 Jesus saith unto her, Go, call thy husband, and come hither. Now this is something only Jesus would do. First they went through the problem of prejudice, then of insult, and now he digs deep within her. (John 4:17-18 The woman answered and said, I have no husband. Jesus said unto her, Thou hast well said, I have no husband: For thou hast had five husbands; and he whom thou now hast is not thy husband: in that saidst thou truly.) She had an emptiness within her that she tried unsuccessfully to fulfill through a man. Romans 13:13 Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying.; Galations 5:19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,Ö Others try to fill the longing within themselves through sexual relations with others. Though some are perverted and promiscuous, others look for a lasting relationship. But they find that that person they thought would bring them satisfaction, didnít, and they go from one relationship to another, as this woman of Samaria did. They think, if I just had a husband with lots of money; or if I just had a wife who was this or that. But then they find that effort too, fails, and they go looking for the "perfect" husband or wife, believing if they keep trying, they will surely succeed, and find the one that will bring them satisfaction and happiness.

John 4:17-18 The woman answered and said, I have no husband. Jesus said unto her, Thou hast well said, I have no husband: For thou hast had five husbands; and he whom thou now hast is not thy husband: in that saidst thou truly. What is it that Jesus could dig up about you, and tell you about, that is keeping you from having His best? What is it (if the Lord exposed you at this moment), that you havenít repented of and gotten out of your life, that would make you want to hide your head in shame, and run and hide. Do you have a hidden secret sin that only you and Jesus know about, that hasnít been dealt with? Iím not talking about just confessing it with your mouth to some man or even to God, but did you confess in repentance and turn from it in disgust. Have you come to hate your sin as God hates it?

John 4:19-26 The woman saith unto him, Sir, I perceive that thou art a prophet.

Our fathers worshipped in this mountain; and ye say, that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship. Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father. Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews. But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. The woman saith unto him, I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things. Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am He. I am He! I am the "I Am"... Iím the one that can satisfy your soul. You tried finding satisfaction with things, but they only pacified your longings temporarily, and again you were dissatisfied. You tried to fill the emptiness of your soul with sexual relations, but found them empty, they only pacified and didnít satisfy. You tried everything man and this world has to offer, but all to no avail, and when all was said and done, you were still empty, hungry and thirsty and your soul was not satisfied. Why do you keep looking elsewhere for that which will satisfy, instead of going to the source of life? Why do you keep thinking there is another way that is more satisfying and comforting to your flesh because you want to fulfill itís lustful desires more than you want the satisfaction that can only come from God. Iím going to give you a revelation that I hope you will never forget, and I pray will haunt you every time you run to the world, to some man or woman, to things and money, and every other source you have used to try to find satisfaction of soul and peace of mind. Jesus satisfies! Jesus satisfies the longing of the thirsty soul! Jesus is all you need! And - Only Jesus can satisfy your soul! So why keep running hither and thither, with your tongue hanging out, full of lustful desires and thirsty for that which only He can satisfy. Stop rebelling against Him. Stop resisting the Holy Spirit. Stop quenching the wooing of the Spirit of God. Run to Him. He will satisfy, and not just temporarily pacify! Jesus satisfies! And you can go to him and drink of that living water anytime day or night, any where you are, and be satisfied. So why not draw from the wells of salvation now? Isaiah 12:1-3 And in that day thou shalt say, O LORD, I will praise thee: though thou wast angry with me, thine anger is turned away, and thou comfortedst me. Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the LORD JEHOVAH is my strength and my song; he also is become my salvation. Therefore with joy shall ye draw water out of the wells of salvation.

Isaiah 10:27 And it shall come to pass in that day, that his burden shall be taken away from off thy shoulder, and his yoke from off thy neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing. There is a level of anointing that will break every yoke and bondage and satisfy your soul, so that you wonít keep going and looking everywhere else for satisfaction. You can be satisfied no matter your circumstances; no matter where you live or the size of house you live in; no matter how old you car; no matter how much or little your income. Those things cannot satisfy your soul. You will find that after you worked so hard and attained that which you have desired and gone after, that when itís all said and done, it doesnít satisfy your soul. The newer bigger place to live can pacify, but not satisfy. A new car may pacify, but it can never satisfy. More money and a better job may pacify, but it cannot satisfy. Look at how much good money, even with fame added, can satisfy; look at people like Elvis or Marilyn Monroe. You say another mate, this one with these certain characteristics, certain looks, build, weight, temperament, hair color or whatever, and you will be satisfied. Look at people like Liz Taylor, I think at last count nine husbands. A new wife or girlfriend, a new mate, cannot satisfy. The only solution is to be filled with God.

If you go out to your favorite restaurant and have a good stuffing, then when you walk out someone offers you another meal, no matter what it is, where it is, how good or desirable it would be if you are hungry, if itís the finest dessert that you love; you will turn it down. Why? Because you are full. The key to rejecting Satan's temptations and offers that appeal to the lusts of your flesh, is to be filled with the Spirit and anointing of God. But if you are empty, hungry, desiring, and looking for something to fill and satisfy your soul, then Satan will give you plenty to fill it with. But it will not give you the same satisfaction and peace that the presence of God in your life will bring. It will not bring the true satisfaction and contentment that the Spirit of God will bring. And the counterfeits that Satan offers will not last. Moreover, they will give you after-effects, like the hangover a drunkard gets. But with Jesus, you can drink of the living waters, until you are absolutely satisfied, with no side effects or hangovers, or headaches or sickness. And you can drink again and again, as long and as often as you want, and you can truly and fully satisfy your soul. And you wonít want or need, or look for or desire the cheap substitute the devil has to offer you.

Leviticus 8:10, 12 And Moses took the anointing oil, and anointed the tabernacle and all that was therein, and sanctified them. And he poured of the anointing oil upon Aaron's head, and anointed him, to sanctify him. The anointing of God will sanctify you. You are the tabernacle that needs anointing. Exodus 31:11 And the anointing oil, and sweet incense for the holy place: according to all that I have commanded thee shall they do. You are that holy place. God wants the sweet incense of your life, which will only come forth when the anointing oil is poured upon you. 2 Corinthians 2:15 For we are unto God a sweet savour of Christ, in them that are saved, and in them that perishÖ; Ephesians 5:2 And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour. Do you desire to become a sweet smelling savor unto the Lord, or will you continue to offer up to Him on the altar of sacrifice, the stench of your fleshly indulgences! Is that what you expect the Lord to accept from you as the proof of your love and appreciation for what He has done for you, to show your gratitude and faithfulness to Him for His great love and mercy that He has shown to you. Romans 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. Do you think Godís requirement is unreasonable? Do you think He has to accept a filthy, fleshly substitute for a holy life? Letís get honest before God. Letís not play church and think going through the motions will satisfy the Lord, any more than it will satisfy your hungry, thirsty, dry and barren soul. Will you not turn to the fountain of living waters today. Jeremiah 2:13 For my people have committed two evils; they have forsaken me the fountain of living waters, and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water. Nothing else can fill and satisfy your soul. Nothing! So why keep trying to do it with things and people, when Jesus is all you need; Heís is the real thing. Jeremiah 17:13 O LORD, the hope of Israel, all that forsake thee shall be ashamed, and they that depart from me shall be written in the earth, because they have forsaken the LORD, the fountain of living waters. Will your name be written in the earth, or in heaven. The choice is yours.

If you let Satan fill you, God canít. If you let God fill you, you will turn down Satan's offer.
