Many teaching about the end times and the antichrist have been taught and passed down a certain way for many years. But as we get closer to the times of the end and that we have more illumination and can more clearly see and understand the things written about, we get a better picture of those things. It is not that they were teaching wrongly from what they knew. Daniel 12:4 “But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.” We are gaining knowledge, spiritual knowledge today as wee see that time and those events unfold before us that changes what was thought and taught before with limited knowledge of thee things.
We see the vision of Daniel in chapter 2:31-35. Then the interpretation is given in Daniel 2:36-45 “This is the dream; and we will tell the interpretation thereof before the king. Thou, O king, art a king of kings: for the God of heaven hath given thee a kingdom, power, and strength, and glory. And wheresoever the children of men dwell, the beasts of the field and the fowls of the heaven hath he given into thine hand, and hath made thee ruler over them all. Thou art this head of gold. And after thee shall arise another kingdom inferior to thee, and another third kingdom of brass, which shall bear rule over all the earth. And the fourth kingdom shall be strong as iron: forasmuch as iron breaketh in pieces and subdueth all things: and as iron that breaketh all these, shall it break in pieces and bruise. And whereas thou sawest the feet and toes, part of potters' clay, and part of iron, the kingdom shall be divided; but there shall be in it of the strength of the iron, forasmuch as thou sawest the iron mixed with miry clay. And as the toes of the feet were part of iron, and part of clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong, and partly broken. And whereas thou sawest iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men: but they shall not cleave one to another, even as iron is not mixed with clay. And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever. Forasmuch as thou sawest that the stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it brake in pieces the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold; the great God hath made known to the king what shall come to pass hereafter: and the dream is certain, and the interpretation thereof sure.”One of the questions is why did God pick the particular elements of the image to represent the different kingdoms. First, the gold head was Babylon, as we know. At that time, the rest of the empires were unknown by name. The Babylonian Empire was known for its wealth of gold. When they invaded Jerusalem they took all the gold of the temple. And the Medes and Persians had ten kingdoms represented by the arms and chest of silver, with the ten fingers of the hands. The Medes and Persians were known for silver. They taxed the people and required payment to be made with silver coins. Also their horse’s bridles were made of silver. It was the metal of the empire. Then Alexander the great and the Grecian Empire, which is brass. They had helmets and weapons made of brass. And the Roman Empire, which was represented by iron. Iron represents war. And the Romans had iron weapons and iron chariots. Then we come to the feet of iron and clay mixed.
Daniel 2:40-43 tells us about the feet and toes of this image and verse 41 tells us that the toes were iron and clay mixed or ‘mingled’. The ten kings form in the end days represented by the ten toes. Daniel 7:7, 20, 24 “7 After this I saw in the night visions, and behold a fourth beast, dreadful and terrible, and strong exceedingly; and it had great iron teeth: it devoured and brake in pieces, and stamped the residue with the feet of it: and it was diverse from all the beasts that were before it; and it had ten horns… 20 And of the ten horns that were in his head, and of the other which came up, and before whom three fell; even of that horn that had eyes, and a mouth that spake very great things, whose look was more stout than his fellows…. 24 And the ten horns out of this kingdom are ten kings that shall arise: and another shall rise after them; and he shall be diverse from the first, and he shall subdue three kings.” In Revelation 17:12 there is the dragon with ten horns. “And the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the beast.” Who do those ten kings represent? The common teaching was that they would be the ten nations of the EU common market. That was easy to teach when the EU had ten nations, and then they got 15 and now over 20 nations. So that obviously doesn’t fit.
Constantine, between the 3rd and 4th century (the 300’s), built Constantinople. Eventually, Rome’s Empire was split into east and west, one part centered in Rome and the other in Constantinople, Turkey. In 800, Charlemagne came to power and formed the Holy Roman Empire, though he was in Germany. We see many divisions of east and west. The splitting of the traditional catholic church into the Roman Catholic and Greek Orthodox, Muslims are divided, east and west, The world is divided into east and west politically, between the communist and free world of democracies, even Germany was divided into east and west. Also Iron could represent Islam in the final days and the clay traditional Christianity and that the two may try to merge by the working of the antichrist and false prophet. Daniel 2:43 “And whereas thou sawest iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men: but they shall not cleave one to another, even as iron is not mixed with clay.”
There will come a false prophet in the last days. Revelation 13:11 “And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon.” Horns always mean authority, power and kingdoms. It is the false prophet who will try to merge two religions.
All the Middle East countries around Israel are Islam, to the north, east and south. To the west is predominately Greek Orthodox and Roman Catholic. So the false prophet will try to bring these two religions together. Many believe and it seems most likely that the false prophet is what the Catholics call a defective pope.
Daniel 8:9 “And out of one of them came forth a little horn, which waxed exceeding great, toward the south, and toward the east, and toward the pleasant land.” The pleasant land of course is Israel, to the South is Egypt, Ethiopia, etc (Daniel 11:45). Then to the east are the fanatical Shiite Muslims of Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, and Pakistan. Bin Laden today seems to have gotten out of Afghanistan into southern Pakistan next to Iran. There is no way US troops can reach him in that area he is thought to be where there is a large military base.
Next, the Muslims of this area will only follow a Muslim. For many years it has been taught that the antichrist will have to be a Jew because first of all, the Jews would not accept anyone but a Jew as their Messiah. This assumption is made without clear scripture. Nowhere in the Bible does it actually say that the antichrist will be a Jew. Daniel 9:24-27 speaks of a person that some relate to this person. “Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy. Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times. And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined. And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.”
The real assumption of the teaching of the antichrist that he will be a Jew is Daniel 11:37. “Neither shall he regard the God of his fathers, nor the desire of women, nor regard any god: for he shall magnify himself above all.” It says he will not regard the god of his fathers. Yet, many Muslims see their god Allah as god and also as the same god as the god of the Jews. There is even a controversy about the name Allah. Many Islamic scholars admit that name was in pre-Islamic times and was the name of a moon deity. Islamic history shows that the areas around where Mohammed came were worshippers of the moon gods and he took that emblem because it was the easiest way to give the people something to associate with his teachings. Though some deny it, many believe that.
Another verse used to say the antichrist must be Jewish is John 5:43. “I am come in my Father's name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive.” Yet this verse in context had nothing to do with the end times or prophecy. It is a simple statement. In the second century a Jewish man came along and they said he was their messiah. He was going to rebuild the temple and it never happened. Then in Napoleons day, many thought he was their Messiah. But the antichrist will not be Jewish. It doesn’t mean that there won’t be some Jewish blood in their background, but also remember that to a Jew, you are a Jew because of your mother and in Islam you are Islamic because of your father. So one person could possible be acceptable to both. But knowing what we know today, how can anyone think that the Muslims would allow a Jew to rule over them, when they want to annihilate the Jews and destroy them. The Koran calls them pigs and would not allow such; the Haddith would not allow it. Everything of the Islamic religion would preclude that.
Another teaching was that the antichrist would be of the tribe of Dan because that tribe is missing in the list of Revelation 7:5-8. “Of the tribe of Juda were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Reuben were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Gad were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Aser were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Nephthalim were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Manasses were sealed twelve thousand.Of the tribe of Simeon were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Levi were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Issachar were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Zabulon were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Joseph were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Benjamin were sealed twelve thousand.” Dan was the first to cause Israel to sin in Judges 18. So they think the antichrist must be from Dan.
Dan, where the territory is, is Tel Aviv is 85% atheist, agnostic and unbelieving New Ager’s and I don’t think God would be sealing such people as his own. In other parts of Israel are more orthodox and reformed of Israel.
Others said he would be a charismatic leader. What does the scripture says. Daniel 8:23 “And in the latter time of their kingdom, when the transgressors are come to the full, a king of fierce countenance, and understanding dark sentences, shall stand up.” He will be of fierce countenance. V.24 “And his power shall be mighty, but not by his own power: and he shall destroy wonderfully, and shall prosper, and practice, and shall destroy the mighty and the holy people.” He will destroy the mighty and holy people. Daniel 8:25 “And through his policy also he shall cause craft to prosper in his hand; and he shall magnify himself in his heart, and by peace shall destroy many: he shall also stand up against the Prince of princes; but he shall be broken without hand.” He will destroy many. Revelation 13:15 “And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed.” Men either follow his religion or be killed, worship his image or be killed. That is not a charismatic leader that people are following. It is because 1.2 billion Muslims will claim him as their Mahdi and be following him. He will go to Jerusalem and liberate the Temple Mount from the Jews and that will make him a hero to the Muslims. He will be a charismatic leader to his people but not to the world.
Revelation 13:3-4 “And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed: and all the world wondered after the beast. And they worshipped the dragon which gave power unto the beast: and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who is like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him?” Many say he will be a great man of peace and all the world will follow him. Really? What does scripture say? Daniel 9:27 “And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.” Revelation 6:2-4, 13:4 “And I saw, and behold a white horse: and he that sat on him had a bow; and a crown was given unto him: and he went forth conquering, and to conquer. And when he had opened the second seal, I heard the second beast say, Come and see. And there went out another horse that was red: and power was given to him that sat thereon to take peace from the earth, and that they should kill one another: and there was given unto him a great sword… And they worshipped the dragon which gave power unto the beast: and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who is like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him?” Daniel 7:23, 8:25 “Thus he said, The fourth beast shall be the fourth kingdom upon earth, which shall be diverse from all kingdoms, and shall devour the whole earth, and shall tread it down, and break it in pieces… And through his policy also he shall cause craft to prosper in his hand; and he shall magnify himself in his heart, and by peace shall destroy many: he shall also stand up against the Prince of princes; but he shall be broken without hand.” He is a man of war, a military man not a man trying to bring peace to all nations. There will be a false peace treaty for 42 months and then the last 42 months kings will submit to him and he will terrorize the world with weapons of mass destruction. No one can make war against him.
Back to Daniels image. Babylon was a gentile empire; Medes and Persians were a gentile empire. Alexander’s Grecian empire was a gentile empire. The Roman Empire was a gentile empire. The whole image has nothing Jewish on it, only Gentile. To say that the feet or the antichrist is Jewish just doesn’t fit. Revelation 11:1-2 “Also I in the first year of Darius the Mede, even I, stood to confirm and to strengthen him. And now will I show thee the truth. Behold, there shall stand up yet three kings in Persia; and the fourth shall be far richer than they all: and by his strength through his riches he shall stir up all against the realm of Grecia.” The final empire will also be a gentile empire controlled by a gentile as all the others.
