Osama bin Laden = 666?
For those who are not familiar with my perspective of eschatology, I don’t necessarily agree with some traditional interpretations of prophetic Scripture. For instance, the traditional view of the Antichrist is that he will arise from a united Europe, have some connection to Rome, and most likely will be a Jew from the tribe of Dan. I vehemently disagree. The person out of Revelation that will have connections to Rome, the Pope to be exact, is the False Prophet, not the Antichrist!
First of all, a Jew cannot be from the tribe of Dan! Jews are historically and exclusively from the tribes of Judah, Benjamin, and Levi.
Secondly, by carefully studying the prophecies of Daniel, you will arrive at the conclusion that the Antichrist arises not from Rome, but from one of the four divisions of Alexander’s old empire (Daniel 8). HISTORICAL NEWS FLASH! The Italian peninsula and Rome were never part of Alexander’s empire. What were those four divisions of the Alexander’s empire?
In Daniel 8:5-8, Daniel saw a vision of a he-goat moving swiftly that had a notable horn. Then he saw that horn divide into four parts. Daniel 8:21 “And the rough goat is the king of Grecia: and the great horn that is between his eyes is the first king.” Then Daniel was told this kingdom would be divided into four parts and Alexander’s kingdom was divided into four parts this way: One general, Polemic, took Egypt, Libya, Palestine and the southern part, another, Cassandra took Greece, Macedonia and the Western part, another Selucus took Babylon, Iran, Iraq, Syria and the Eastern part of Asia Minor and the last general, Lysimachus took Turkey, (Trace, Bithynia, Purgamum) and the northern part.
Daniel talks about a great goat that represented the kingdom of Alexander the Great. Daniel 8:5 “as I was considering, behold, an he goat came from the west on the face of the whole earth, and touched not the ground: and the goat had a notable horn between his eyes.” He said it had a great horn on its head that was suddenly divided into four parts. Daniel 8:8 “Therefore the he goat waxed very great: and when he was strong, the great horn was broken; and for it came up four notable ones toward the four winds of heaven.” History tells us that Alexander’s kingdom was divided into four parts among his four generals when he died. One took Egypt and northern Africa. One took Syria and the territory of Babylon. One took Greece and one took the territory of Turkey. Out of one of these regions Daniel tells us arises a little horn speaking great things. Daniel 7:8 “I considered the horns, and, behold, there came up among them another little horn, before whom there were three of the first horns plucked up by the roots: and, behold, in this horn were eyes like the eyes of man, and a mouth speaking great things.” So the antichrist has to come out of either the northern part of Africa, the territory of Iraq, Syria and Lebanon, the territory of Turkey or that of ancient Greece. As we continue to look at this scripture it tells us that this little horn, the last world dictator, the antichrist, would be great towards the south, which is the northern horn or Africa from where Israel is, toward the east and toward the pleasant land, another name for Israel. Daniel 8:9 “And out of one of them came forth a little horn, which waxed exceeding great, toward the south, and toward the east, and toward the pleasant land.” The pleasant land is an idiom for Israel. This little horn is identified in scripture and by the early church fathers as the antichrist. This passage specifically tells us where his greatness will be and doesn’t say anything about the west. It mentions the south and the east. East of Israel is Iraq, Iran, Jordan, Afghanistan, Pakistan, where all the fanatical Muslims are and terrorism is rising up against the west and Israel. If the order here is specific and important, then first it mentions the south. If that is where he begins, then it would mean that the antichrist comes from the south in relationship to Israel which included Egypt, Ethiopia, Libya and Palestine. At least this is where his power base begins. Then he takes over the East or the Persian Gulf area and the oil. It is most likely then after he is controlling most of the world’s oil that the ten kings join and submit to him because he controls the oil. Does that make you think of certain European nations today who are dependent upon Middle East oil who are against war against Iraq to oust Saddam Hussein? Revelation 17:12-13 “And the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the beast. These have one mind, and shall give their power and strength unto the beast.”
Again, the four choices for the antichrist to come from are the four areas of Alexander’s Empire. When you do a study of prophecy, the best identify of where he will come from is the area of Iraq, Lebanon and Syria which is the old area of Babylon and the only Empire of Bible Prophecy that had a wound, that has died and has to come back to live again. That is the connection and that is why going to war with Iraq had to happen. Something had to happen to shake up that part of the world to prepare the world for the fulfillment of scripture and prophecy. What we are seeing is the beginning of the sifting of the nations. The sifting of the nations is beginning and it is going to evolve around Israel and Islam, the nations that are Islamic.
The book of Daniel has given us a description of the Antichrist and a hint as to where he comes from. This antichrist will be over the gold and silver and the precious things. Daniel 11:43 “But he shall have power over the treasures of gold and of silver, and over all the precious things of Egypt: and the Libyans and the Ethiopians shall be at his steps.” Daniel 11:24 “He shall enter peaceably even upon the fattest places of the province; and he shall do that which his fathers have not done, nor his fathers' fathers; he shall scatter among them the prey, and spoil, and riches: yea, and he shall forecast his devices against the strong holds, even for a time.” The Hebrew word for province there is the word Medina. There is a desert called the Median desert, which is the root of that word. But if you take Medina literal, it is in Saudi Arabia where the founder of Islam was buried. If you take that same scripture and translate it today, we would say, “the antichrist will be over the oily places of Medina” or he will take over the Saudi Arabian oil wells and any man who can control the oil wells can control the world.
Forerunners of the Antichrist?
Nebuchadnezzar was the first gentile power to destroy Jerusalem, raze the temple and carry the Jews into captivity. He also erected an image of himself and demanded that all bow down to worship the image under the threat of death (Daniel 3). Furthermore, because of his boasting, this same Nebuchadnezzar went mad and became a beast for seven years (Daniel 4:28-37).
Knowledge of scripture should tell you that Nebuchadnezzar displayed characteristics similar to the coming antichrist, and I believe he serves as a model for the "son of perdition."
Another likely prototype of the Antichrist is Antiochus Epiphanes, the Syrian infamous for his role in the Hanukkah story. It is commonly believed that what is spoken of in Daniel 8, 11 & 12 - that is, a ruler would arise from one of the four divisions of Alexander's empire, make war against "the holy people," cause the daily and evening sacrifices to be abolished and commit an abomination that would make the temple desolate - was fulfilled in him.
Antiochus Epiphanes (a title meaning, "the risen god") was a literal fulfillment of this prophecy. He defiled the temple of the Most High. He erected an image of Zeus in the courtyard of the temple and sacrificed unclean animals upon the altar, making it desolate of Jews. Moreover, this Syrian forbid God's people from observing Torah under the threat of death. Clearly, he displayed characteristics consistent with what we understand the future lawless (read Torah-less) one to be. Yet we know that some scriptures and prophecies have a dual fulfillment. The prophecy referred to something that happened in old times, yet pointed to a future fulfillment of which the first was only a type or shadow, showing us in the end times what was to happen in our day. This is true of this scripture.
Antiochus can not be the ultimate fulfillment of this prophecy because over a century later Jesus (Y'shua), while discussing "the end" said, "When you therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place . . . then let them which be in Judea flee into the mountains" (Matthew 24: 15-16).
So, what have we learned? First of all, the pictures that describe the Antichrist seem to suggest that he will be a gentile leader and that, in all likelihood, will come from the area of ancient Mesopotamia (Babylon-Assyria). He will be against what the Holy Temple represents, thus he defiles it. Rather than being an impostor claiming to be the Messiah of the Jews, he will be against the Messiah, Israel and the Torah. This is in complete contrast to what most prophecy teachers say about the Antichrist.
The Islamic Messiah
Just a few weeks ago, a video clip of Osama bin Laden showed the Al Qaida leader standing before a dry-erase board with an Arab phrase written upon it - "awaited enlightened one." It seems that someone close to bin Laden, perhaps bin Laden himself, is trying to suggest to the Muslim world that the Islamic messiah has come or is coming soon. Many of the detainees in Guantanamo Bay seem to think that bin Laden may be the one to lead the last great jihad.
The Hadiths (Islamic supplement to the Quran) predicts that a messianic figure, Al Mahdi, will come at the end of days, accompanied by the "prophet Jesus," and will lead the Muslim world to total victory over the "infidels" - that is primarily considered to be, Jews and Christians, the people of “The Book” (Bible) to the Muslims.
According to intelligence sources, many of the terrorists with al-Qaida ties who are crossing over into Iraq are doing so because they believe this Islamic prophecy is in the process of coming to pass. This is why the battle has become so fierce. If it had not been for the foreigners coming from Syria, Saudi Arabia and other surrounding countries, the US forces would be in a far different position today and have been far more successful in the occupation and rebuilding efforts. It is these radical followers of Osama bin Laden that are responsible for all the recent rash of coordinated attacks that are becoming more organized and powerful.
Since the end of 2001, bin Laden has been signing his name "Osama bin Muhammad bin Laden" rather than his usual Osama bin Laden. According to those in the know, this is significant because it gives bin Laden a messianic dimension. The Hadith teaches that al Mahdi will be recognizable by the fact that he carries the name of the prophet Muhammad.
Al Mahdi is supposed to appear at a time when Muslims are oppressed in every nation wherein they reside. He will lead the fight against the oppressors, unite the Muslim world and bring Islam’s system of justice to the entire world. The poor fools of Europe who are so opposed to our war against terrorist and in favor of the Palestinians and Muslims don’t realize that the Muslims plan to overthrow their government and make them all servants of Allah. The day will come when the French will regret their support for the enemy. They don’t have the wisdom or insight to see that they are their enemies as well in that through they are not considered a ‘Christian’ nation by Islam and are not supporting Israel as the USA, they are a target to be taken over by Islam to make them also a Muslim nation.
Just recently, bin Laden issued a warning to America, which stated that attacks would continue against American interests inside and outside of the country until "an Islamic government is formed," presumably meaning an Islamic government in the United States. There are some in the intelligence community who are fearful that bin Laden may declare himself "Mahdi" in an attempt to make this happen.
According to the Hadiths, Mahdi will arise in Arabia and will be compelled by popular acclamation in Mecca to lead the Muslims against the infidels ("Jews and Christians").
At Mahdi's side will be Jesus, who in fact, leads the revolt against all infidels. It will be Jesus who seeks and destroys those who would resist Islam's agenda. Together the pair will wage war against Dajjal, "the deceiver" and after seven years the final judgment will ensue.
So, what does this have to do with the Antichrist? I am convinced that it may have everything to do with it. I believe that the Antichrist will be the one Muslims call Al Mahdi. Moreover, I believe that IF some Islamic leader were to declare himself "Mahdi" and the claim was believed by many in the Islamic world, then our war on terror would evolve into a global war against Islam; something the Bush administration emphatically denies and is trying to avoid.
I am not suggesting that bin Laden is the Antichrist. At one time he had proclaimed that Saddam was the Mahdi. That was back when Saddam was rebuilding Babylon and had attacked Kuwait, intending to then go forward and take Saudi Arabia to take over the oil fields and have the great leverage of those oil fields and the money they bring into his hands. But then on the other hand, bin Laden has also used the name of Mohammed within his own name and some think he will be the one because of that and other things. No one know who the antichrist will be, but I do believe that it will not be a European, a Jew or the Pope, but a Muslim. The Muslims would never follow a Jew or the Pope. That is dreaming and like a fairy tale.
On the other hand, I am suggesting that this generation will witness the rise of this man called Antichrist, and don't be surprised if he emerges from the Middle East - soon! We are the generation that will see the culmination of all things.
